Unifying voices in the fight against AMR

EPN Executive Director, Dr. Richard Neci, has joined delegates attending the joint East Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC)-AU Policy Dialogue for the UNGA HLM on AMR and the 50th Celebration of ECSA-HC. The event held in Arusha, Tanzania has attracted over 300 delegates from the East, Central and Southern African regions, to speak on the progress of unifying one voice on issues pertaining the fight against AMR.

Key conversations revolved around AMR financing, data, surveillance and monitoring and access to medicines. As a panelist, Dr. Neci spoke about “The role of Faith Based Partners in Global and Regional Policy Frameworks on AMR: Unplugging Bottlenecks and Optimising opportunities.”

It was noted that there is inadequate involvement of the private sector, civil societies, communities and youth voices in implementation activities. Emphasis was also put on the need to engage in prioritization of fragile countries on AMR and align them with the progress of other countries that are ahead in addressing AMR issues.

This will be a key topic of focus during the upcoming EPN’s Biennial Forum in October 2024 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
