The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Cooper hospital has heaped praises on the Christian Health Association of Liberia (CHAL) for supply of drugs through its Drugs Revolving Fund Program. CHAL has provided seed fund drugs to member facilities as a way of sustainability. S.D. Cooper hospital is one of the 25 beneficiaries of this program. Some of the other member facilities benefitting from the Drugs Revolving Program include: Phebe hospital Ganta, St. Timothy, and Foya Borma hospital.
Through this program, CHAL strengthens these facilities to effectively manage the drugs and to enhance the quality of health services by ensuring good quality essential medicines. CHAL has two drug stores, the main drug store in capital Monrovia, established in 1975 and the other in the central region of Liberia started in 2019 to expand reach and availability of quality and affordable drugs to many people.
S.D. Cooper Hospital Administrator, Jonathan Morris says the regular supply of drugs by CHAL is a fundamental component of a well-functioning health system at his facility. Adm. Morris said the impact of the agreement entered into with CHAL is tremendous as CHAL is providing essential medicines regularly in the context of functioning health system at all times in adequate dosage forms with assured quality and adequate price.
“The importance of drugs to consumers is illustrated by what happens when drugs are available,” Adm. Morris noted. He disclosed further that visits to the hospital increased drastically since CHAL started providing quality and affordable drugs in 2019 to present.
He noted one of the present challenges in securing drugs from CHAL as the unavailability of certain drugs when needed. He called on CHAL to ensure that drugs are available at all times as consumers satisfaction is an important parameter for assessing the quality of patient-care services. CHAL is committed to timely distribution of its drug supplies. Though in some cases there can be a general delay in supply of drugs to CHAL stores from its supplier, CHAL is committed and coordinates efforts to avoid such situations. It also communicates with the various facilities in time in such instances. This program also has enabled CHAL to expand access to medical supplies ensuring availability and affordability.
