Increasing the number of trained pharmaceutical staff
EPN’s seeks to promote and enhance professionalism and good governance through training and education, and support the delivery of efficient and effective pharmaceutical services among faith-based health systems.
This involves ensuring that staff working in member health facilities are able to progressively improve their pharmaceutical systems. With this, they are able to meet international standards of selection, procurement, distribution, and use of medicines that deliver demonstrable increased access to quality products and improved treatment outcomes.
Goal: To increase the percentage of trained pharmaceutical staff in members’ facilities.
This is achieved through;
The EPN online training is an enhancement of phyical capacity building programs. The EPN Learning Management System (LMS) is an e-learning platform hosting various courses for healthcare workers. These courses contain content essential to build and improve knowledge and skills needed to deliver on quality services.
Since its launching, the platform has over 900 learners registered and taking various course. There are currently 14 courses. These courses target diverse cadres of healthcare professionals including; nurses, pharmacy staff , laboratory technicians, clinicians, health facility managers, finance officers among others.
As part of efforts to track effectiveness of the training especially among healthcare workers who are already working in health facilities; after completion of their courses, the trainees are required to develop action plans capturing some of the areas they plan to improve within their health facilities or DSOs.
EPN aims to tackle the acute pharmaceutical human resource shortage in Church health institutions in select countries of Sub-Saharan Africa by upskilling and upgrading of existing pharmacy staff. This is achieved through provision of scholarship opportunities for healthcare staff working in EPN member health facilities in most need of.
Pooled Procurement Initiative
Pooled Procurement provides an opportunity to improve access to affordable quality-assured medicines and medical products in church-health systems. It helps lower the costs through bulk purchasing and pooled negotiations, assurance of quality and stable supplies.
